Next week, the European Investment Bank (EIB) will be holding its annual press conference where President Werner Hoyer is expected to give an overview of the bank’s performance over the past year and its outlook for 2019.

Reflecting on the EIB’s investments in the energy sector last year, Bankwatch and Counter Balance campaigners will discuss the continued support the world’s largest multilateral bank has been extending to fossil fuels and the flaws in its support to sustainable energy projects within the EU.

In particular, since the EIB is nowadays in the process of reviewing its energy lending strategy, 2019 could prove decisive for the way European public money is used to support the EU energy and climate goals.
